Tulipa ‘Merlot’ will grow sumptuous deep violet-burgundy cup-shaped tulips. This variety is also lily-flowering which means that its petals will be pointed, gradually opening further and further as they age.

Flowering in April and May, these bulbs will grow to a height of around 100cm/40″.

Tall and elegant, these lily-flowering tulips are perfect for a formal bedding scheme, planted en masse along pathways or in the garden border, adding height and colour. Try planting ‘Merlot’ with other complementary spring flowering tulips to create a colourful feature within the garden, either with other deeper shades like maroon and warm pink, or with contrasts such as orange, yellow or white.

They should ideally be planted together, in groups of at least 10-15 for the greatest visual impact. These flowers will also make a stunning addition to floral bouquets, especially when mixed with acid greens and purples, earing a place in the cut flower garden.

These ‘Merlot’ tulip bulbs can be grown in a wide range of soils, be it acid, alkaline or neutral, as long as there is good drainage, thriving in a position of full sun. Plant the bulbs approximately 15cm/6″ deep and 10cm/4″ apart.
