About Us

Gates is so much more than a garden centre.

Gates is a large garden centre on the Rutland / Leicestershire border that offers over 12,500 square metres of retail and leisure facilities. You’ll find everything from indoor and outdoor plants, garden products, water features, pots and planters and garden tools; to patio furniture, barbecues, clothing, gifts, homeware and pet care – there really is something for everyone.

There’s also a large, well-stocked farm shop, a restaurant with sunny balcony and a cosy coffee shop. We also have a dedicated dog walking field, and there’s everything you’ll need for a perfect family day out.

Established in 1948 by Fred and Ivy Gates, the garden centre was originally created within the walls of a large Victorian kitchen garden belonging to Cold Overton Hall. Still on the same site today, the centre has expanded considerably over the years, but still retains its traditional family values of excellent customer service coupled with great value for money.

Supporting good causes

At Gates Garden Centre, we are very proud to be associated with a number of local good causes and national charities. Thanks to the generous support of our customers and colleagues, our charitable partnerships have raised an enormous sum of money over the past 30 years. Read more about it here.

Guide dogs and other pets

Guide and assistance dogs are always welcome at Gates Garden Centre.
It is with regret that we are unable to accept other dogs and pets into the garden centre.
