We have two large garden centres in Leicestershire, both offering an exceptional shopping and dining experience.
Gates Oakham
Established in 1948 by Fred and Ivy Gates, Gates Garden Centre in Oakham began within the walled Victorian kitchen garden of Cold Overton Hall, on the Rutland–Leicestershire border.
Still on the same site today, Gates Oakham has grown into one of the largest destination garden centres in the UK, featuring an award-winning Farm Shop, two restaurants, expansive plant areas and inspiring retail spaces. Despite its growth, the centre continues to uphold the family values it was built on — exceptional customer service and great value for money.
Gates Woodlands Hinckley
After more than 75 years at our home in Cold Overton near Oakham, we’ve branched out — bringing the Gates experience to Gates Woodlands Hinckley.
Formerly known as Dobbies Stapleton or Woodlands Garden Centre, this much-loved site on the A447 Ashby Road, near Hinckley, has been beautifully refreshed. You’ll discover familiar faces and popular concessions, alongside an extended plant area, a brand-new Farm Shop and Fred & Ivy’s, our stylish new restaurant.
We’re delighted to offer the same exceptional shopping and dining experience our Oakham visitors love, here in Hinckley — and we can’t wait to welcome you soon.

Dining at Gates Oakham

Enjoy a delicious meal or afternoon tea in the beautiful setting of our Garden Restaurant. Fresh food and drinks are served daily, with lighter options available. This large, friendly space overlooks the Leicestershire countryside with stunning views.
Organising a special event? Book a private dining experience in the stylish Vellum Room or larger Thornton Suite, situated in the Garden Restaurant.
In our walled garden, the Courtyard Coffee Shop is for more cosy, casual dining and serves breakfast, lunch, and drinks. Why not relax on a sofa.
Both are open seven days a week.
