eCommerce Assistant – Core Gardening

Full-time, Permanent

We are looking for an eCommerce Assistant to join the multi-channel sales and marketing team here at Gates Garden Centre.

Focusing on our Core Gardening Category, which includes Plants and associated Horticultural Supplies, the eCommerce Assistant will be primarily responsible for the presentation and commercial management of products on the website and third-party sites, which will involve writing engaging content and uploading imagery in order to increase sales, web page performance and platform specific conversion rates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and optimise product listings in order to increase sales conversions and improve search engine position, identifying any problem areas
  • Ensure product selection, information and pricing are accurate on all sales channels
  • Assist with the day-to-day trading activities of the website and third-party / marketplace platforms
  • Update website creative, copy and promotional messaging as required
  • Work with the eCommerce team and retail departmental managers to create and populate categories based on search demand, trends and seasonal priorities
  • Promote new, top-selling or seasonal products as required
  • React to stock levels & ensure that the website is updated accordingly to prevent overselling
  • Review website on a regular basis to ensure that all copy and messaging is clear and up to date
  • Highlight technical issues or bugs and report them to eCommerce Manager

Ideal Skills and Experience

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Experience or keen interest in plants, gardening and horticulture
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to co-ordinate with different teams
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team
  • Personable and able to develop strong, effective relationships
  • Up-to date knowledge of eCommerce and Online Sales Environments
  • Knowledge of SEO & understanding of non-technical SEO best practice
  • Comfortable manipulating data in spreadsheets
  • Familiarity of working within marketing or online trading
  • Experience of Content, Product and Inventory Management Systems, ideally WordPress, WooCommerce and eBay
  • Pro-active and creative, able to come up with ideas to help develop the business
  • Strong commercial awareness
  • Any experience with CRM, Social Media Shopping / Marketing and Email Marketing would be an advantage

Tills and Customer Service Assistant

Full-time, Permanent

We are currently looking for a full-time Tills and Customer Service Assistant to join our growing team.

We pride ourselves on our high standards of retailing, visual presentation and customer service. As the ideal candidate, you will have retail experience and a passion for excellent customer service. You will be comfortable working as part of a team, whilst showing an outgoing and energetic personality. You will be approachable, friendly, presentable and efficient in your day to day work. A confident communicator, who can interact with customers and pass on product knowledge where appropriate.

This role requires first class customer service skills, including processing customer purchases through the tills both accurately and efficiently. You will help our customers with any queries they might have as well as packing and liaising with the Customer Support Team. You will also be required to merchandise new and existing stock.

The role also involves some stock control, working with the Security Team and other departments as necessary. Also preferred, but not essential, is experience of upselling and link sales. Full Training and uniform will be provided.

Gates Garden Centre is seeking a full-time Retail Assistant for its large Farm Shop, working five days per week including weekends.

We offer great value to our customers on a wide range of speciality food goods. We support this with a focus on delivering ‘old fashioned’, genuine and friendly customer service.

Our Retail Assistants are very important as they represent Gates when they serve many hundreds of customers every week. This is an important responsibility and comes with a high degree of trust. A strong sense of passion, commitment and attention to detail are essential for this role.

The role:

  • Serving customers quickly, efficiently and in a friendly manner
  • Ensuring customers have the best shopping experience, both in the shop and at the checkout
  • Excellent product knowledge in order to advise and answer customer queries
  • Caring for stock (rotation is key) to ensure customers leave with food in perfect condition
  • Handling deliveries
  • Keeping the shop in great shape and looking its best at all times

Till Supervisor

We require a full time Till Supervisor to join the team at Gates Garden Centre, working five days a week to include one alternating weekend day.

The Role

You will help to manage a small team of staff in our busy Garden Centre Till area. General day to day duties to include:

  • Reconciling & Balancing tills & floats
  • Assisting customers with product enquiries and purchases
  • Upselling and cross-selling
  • General housekeeping of the till area
  • Stock control

Retail Assistant – Outdoor Living

Full-Time & Part-Time, Permanent

Gates Garden Centre is seeking full-time and part-time Retail Assistants for its Outdoor Living department. These are interesting and varied roles, focusing on outdoor living products such as Garden Furniture, Barbecues and accessories. The roles require working either full-time or part-time, and both positions include working either Saturday or Sunday each week. The roles include:

Customer Service

  • Provide excellent levels of customer service
  • Ensure customers have the best shopping experience
  • Deal with customer complaints and enquiries, providing the best possible outcome

Sales

  • Contribute towards ensuring department sales targets are achieved
  • Excellent product knowledge in order to advise and answer customer queries

Visual Merchandising

  • Encourage customers to make purchases through visual presentation of stock
  • Keep the store in great shape and looking its best

Customer Support Assistant

Seasonal, Sundays only

We are looking for a highly motivated, engaging person who has a keen awareness of customer service to join our busy Customer Support Team. Reporting to the Sundries Manager you will have a practical approach, enjoy varied physical work and be a team player.

The key areas of the job involves:

  • Assisting customers with compost and heavy items around the site
  • Moving stock around the site using trolleys and pallet moving equipment
  • Sweeping, tidying and maintaining the garden centre to a high standard including re-siting trolleys and baskets
  • Processing stock and maintaining displays
  • Picking and collating products ready for collection and delivery

The ideal candidate will be professional, well presented and have excellent customer service skills. Additionally, have an interest in gardening, a keen eye for detail, be accurate with figures and pricing and have a flexible approach in a busy retail environment. The successful applicant will be required to work Sundays only.

Plant Area Assistant

Full-Time, Permanent

We currently have a vacancy for a full-time Plant Area Assistant.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience of working in a Garden Centre or other horticultural training or background
  • Have a friendly personality with an ability to easily engage with and connect with our customers
  • Have excellent knowledge of plants, plant care and maintenance
  • Have some knowledge of plant pests and diseases
  • Be able to recognise and act on sales opportunities
  • Have an ability to work well as part of a small team

You will be required to work one alternating weekend day.
