Customer Support Assistant

 Full-Time, Permanent

We are a busy, dynamic, long established, family run company recognised in giving outstanding customer service and offering superior quality garden products.

We are looking for a highly motivated, engaging person who has a keen awareness of customer service to join our busy Customer Support Team. Reporting to the Sundries Manager you will have a practical approach, enjoy varied physical work and be a team player.

The key areas of the job involves:

  • Assisting customers with telephone enquiries across a range of gardening products
  • Processing stock and maintaining displays
  • Picking and collating products ready for collection and delivery
  • Assisting customers with compost and heavy items around the site
  • Moving stock around the site using trolleys and pallet moving equipment
  • Sweeping tidying and maintaining the garden centre to a high standard including re-siting trolleys and baskets

The ideal candidate will be professional, well presented and have excellent customer service skills. Additionally, have an interest in gardening, a keen eye for detail, be accurate with figures & pricing and have a flexible approach in a busy retail environment. Working five days, the successful applicant will be required to work alternate Saturdays and Sundays.

Full training and uniform are provided.

Delivery Driver

 Full-Time, Permanent

We are currently looking for a full-time Delivery Driver to join the growing Gates team. You’ll be the face of our business for the customers you meet each day, so you must have a strong customer service focus and a can-do attitude. You will work five days a week, including one alternating weekend day.

The role involves:

  • Loading and unloading of deliveries safely
  • A physical approach to handling items
  • Maintaining good housekeeping standards in our vehicles
  • Working as part of successful team

The ideal candidate:

  • A responsible and courteous driver, comfortable behind the wheel of large vans
  • Great customer service skills

Deputy Farm Shop Manager

Full-Time, Permanent

Gates Farm Shop is a new, large-scale, traditional farm shop located alongside Gates Garden Centre. Due to our success we are now looking for a Deputy Manager to assist in the running of all aspects of the farm shop operation. This is a unique and exciting opportunity for a highly motivated manager to take on responsibility and ownership in the running of the business, alongside the Farm Shop Manager. A strong sense of passion, commitment and attention to detail is essential for this role.

Gates is one of the largest independent destination home and garden centres in the UK, established over 70 years ago and developing continually in response to customer demand and market trends. Gates Farm Shop has a focus on offering the finest produce, sourced locally wherever possible, including meat supplied from our own farm.

The role:

  • Wide ranging retail management role
  • Product range development

The candidate:

  • Previous food retail experience is recommended

Retail Assistants – Farm Shop

Full-Time and Part-Time, Permanent

Gates Garden Centre is seeking Retail Assistants for its new Farm Shop, working either full-time or part-time, including either Saturday or Sunday each week.

We offer great value to our customers on a wide range of speciality food goods. We support this with a focus on delivering ‘old fashioned’, genuine and friendly customer service.

Our Retail Assistants are very important as they represent Gates when they serve many hundreds of customers every week. This is an important responsibility and comes with a high degree of trust. A strong sense of passion, commitment and attention to detail are essential for this role.

The role:

  • Serving customers quickly, efficiently and in a friendly manner
  • Ensuring customers have the best shopping experience, both in the shop and at the checkout
  • Excellent product knowledge in order to advise and answer customer queries
  • Caring for stock (rotation is key) to ensure customers leave with food in perfect condition
  • Handling deliveries
  • Keeping the shop in great shape and looking its best at all times
  • You will be expected to cover occasional other shifts when colleagues are absent on annual leave.

About you:

  • You will have previous customer service and/or shop/till experience
  • A flexible team player, who is energetic, enthusiastic and dynamic

Sales Assistant – Outdoor Living / Christmas Department

Full-Time, Permanent

Gates is a large garden and lifestyle shopping destination on the Rutland/Leicestershire border, offering over 120,000ft² of retail shopping, leisure and restaurants. We currently have a vacancy for a full-time Sales Assistant for our Seasonal Department. This is an interesting and varied role, focusing on Outdoor Living in the spring/summer and Christmas in the winter months.

The ideal candidate will:

  • have relevant experience of working in a retail environment
  • have a friendly personality with an ability to engage easily and connect with our customers
  • be able to recognise and act upon sales opportunities
  • have an ability to work well as part of a team

Applicants must also be professional and well-presented and have excellent customer service skills.

Deputy Catering Manager

Full-Time, Permanent

We are currently looking for an established manager to support the Catering Manager in the running of the 360-cover Garden Restaurant and 120-cover Courtyard Coffee Shop.

Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the Catering Manager in the efficient management of The Garden Restaurant and Courtyard Coffee Shop, including kitchen and front of house teams.
  • To help manage, motivate and develop a team of up to 65 staff to deliver a high standard of food preparation, service and customer care.
  • Plan and review menus in consultation with the Catering Manager and Chefs.
  • Ensure all food is prepared to a high standard as per company policy and current legislation.
  • Deliver an outstanding service to customers at all times.
  • Implement and maintain the statutory and company standards of hygiene, health and safety and take any action as necessary.
  • Assist in ordering supplies, managing stock and controlling wastage.
  • Manage staffing including rotas, holidays and absences, ensuring adequate cover at all times.
  • Help with the hiring and training of new staff.

About You:

  • Extensive hands-on front and back of house experience in a high quality busy restaurant/catering environment.
  • A hands-on manager looking for the next step in your career, with exceptionally high standards of service and food presentation, willing to operate at the forefront of service.
  • Experience in a high volume operation.
  • Staff management, recruitment and training experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and management skills to co-ordinate with the kitchen and front of house teams.
  • Fully conversant with food hygiene regulations, relevant Health and Safety legislation and have appropriate qualifications.
  • A keen eye for cost-control, budgeting, profitability and efficiency.
  • Experience of purchasing and stock control.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Good computer skills covering email, Word and Excel.
  • Previous experience as a chef is not necessary, but you must have a passion for food.

Hours:

  • Full Time, 5 days out of 7.
  • As the restaurant is open only during Garden Centre hours, there is no requirement to work evenings or split shifts.
  • Due to the nature of the business, the successful candidate will need to have a flexible approach to working hours, especially weekends and Bank Holidays, as these are our busiest times.

Salary: A rewarding salary package commensurate with experience.
