We currently have a vacancy for a full-time Chef in our Garden Restaurant, working approximately 40 hours per week, to include weekends. No evenings or split shifts. Closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day, 27 December, New Year’s Day and Easter Sunday.

As a member of our kitchen team, you will be responsible for ensuring all food and associated products are prepared, cooked, served and presented to our high standards. With excellent customer service skills, you should also be professional, well presented and able to communicate clearly with people at all levels. You should be a self-motivated team player able to work unsupervised in a busy and fast paced environment.

Warehouse and Delivery Assistant

Full-Time, Permanent

We are currently looking for a full-time Warehouse and Delivery Assistant to join the growing Gates team. The role is primarily warehouse based but will also include a variety of other on-site tasks in response to seasonal demand. You will work five days a week, including one alternating weekend day.

The Role involves:

  • Warehouse inventory
  • Picking items with a high degree of accuracy
  • Using a computer to book items for dispatch
  • Liaising with couriers in order that items are packaged correctly
  • Loading and unloading of deliveries safely
  • A physical approach to handling items
  • Maintaining good housekeeping standards in the warehouse
  • Working as part of successful team

The ideal candidate:

  • Warehouse experience is preferable, but not essential if the candidate has a willing attitude and a can-do approach
  • Experience in working with couriers and dispatch procedures
  • Forklift experience
  • Basic computer skills
  • Attention to detail and takes pride in their work
  • Flexible approach to working
  • Great customer service skills
  • A positive approach to working both independently and as part of a team

Goods In Clerk

Full-Time, Permanent

We are currently seeking a Goods In Clerk to join our growing Farm Shop team based at Gates Garden Centre. This is a full-time, permanent position, working five days a week including one weekend day.

Gates Farm Shop opened just under a year ago and has very quickly built a reputation for fine quality produce and excellent customer service. The farm shop is large, with over 1,000 lines currently. Having recently launched a Farm Shop online shopping website too, we now need a Goods In Clerk to help with handling the many deliveries we receive every day.

You will be responsible for:

  • Booking in deliveries
  • Receiving goods and booking into epos
  • Stock control
  • Stock rotation
  • Housekeeping duties
  • Helping on the shop floor when required, including re-stocking, customer service and tills

You will have:

  • Previous stock and epos experience is preferred, but full training will be provided
  • Highly accurate and reliable
  • Must be computer literate
  • Excellent communication, organisation and attention to detail skills

Catering Manager

Daytime only – no split shifts

Due to expansion and promotion, we are currently looking for an experienced Catering Manager to manage the thriving 360-cover Garden Restaurant  and 120-cover Coffee Shop, both located within Gates Garden Centre.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsibility for the efficient management of both restaurants, including kitchen and front of house teams.
  • Manage, motivate and develop a team of over 65 staff to deliver a high standard of food preparation, service and customer care.
  • Plan and review menus in consultation with the management team.
  • Ensure all food is prepared to a high standard as per company policy and current legislation.
  • Deliver an outstanding service to customers at all times.
  • Control and monitor the financial performance of the restaurant to pre-budgeted targets.
  • Implement and maintain the statutory and company standards of hygiene, health and safety and take any action as necessary.
  • Order supplies, manage stock and control wastage.
  • Manage staffing including rotas, holidays and absences, ensuring adequate cover at all times.
  • Hire and train new staff.

About You:

  • Extensive hands-on front and back of house experience in a high quality busy restaurant/catering environment.
  • A hands-on manager, with exceptionally high standards of service and food presentation, who is willing to operate at the forefront of service.
  • Experience in a high volume operation.
  • Creative flair and up-to-date industry knowledge for producing and pricing menus.
  • Staff management, recruitment and training experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and management skills to co-ordinate the kitchen and front of house teams.
  • Fully conversant with food hygiene regulations, relevant Health and Safety legislation and have appropriate qualifications.
  • A keen eye for cost-control, budgeting, profitability and efficiency.
  • Experience of purchasing and stock control.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Good computer skills covering email, Word and Excel.
  • Previous experience as a chef is not necessary, but you must have a passion for food.

Farm Shop Manager

Gates Garden Centre has opened a brand new, large-scale, state-of-the-art farm shop, alongside its already successful destination home and garden centre. We are now looking for an experienced manager to run all aspects of the farm shop operation. This is a unique opportunity for a highly motivated retail manager to become involved right at the start of this exciting new business venture. You will be keen to take on responsibility and ownership in the running of the business; managing the day to day operation, sourcing and buying the full product range and will have a significant impact on the future success of the business.
