Cook

Full-Time, Permanent

We currently have a vacancy for a full-time or part-time Cook in our Garden Restaurant, working up to 40 hours per week, to include one weekend day. No evening or split shifts.

Applicants should be able to offer a flexible approach to working days and times and be available to work during School/College holiday periods and Bank Holidays.

As a member of our kitchen team, you will be responsible for ensuring all food and associated products are prepared, cooked, served and presented to our high standards. With excellent customer service skills, you should also be professional, well presented and able to communicate clearly with people at all levels. You should be a self-motivated team player able to work unsupervised in a busy and fast paced environment.

Coffee Shop Barista

We currently have vacancies for full-time or part-time Coffee Shop Baristas, working in our newly refurbished Courtyard Coffee Shop. Days are negotiable but must include at least one weekend day.

It is essential that you are already a trained Barista, able to prepare and serve a variety of authentic coffee drinks. With excellent customer service skills, you should also be professional, well presented and able to communicate clearly with people at all levels. You should be a self-motivated team player able to work unsupervised in a busy and fast paced environment.

Plant Area Assistant

Full-Time or Part-Time

We currently have a vacancy for a full-time or part-time Plant Area Assistant.

The ideal candidate will:

  • have experience of working in a Garden Centre or other horticultural training or background
  • have a friendly personality with an ability to easily engage with and connect with our customers
  • have excellent knowledge of plants, plant care and maintenance
  • have some knowledge of plant pests and diseases
  • be able to recognise and act on sales opportunities
  • have an ability to work well as part of a small team

You will be required to work one alternating weekend day.

Garden Sundries and Landscaping – Department Manager

Full-Time, Permanent

Gates Garden Centre is one of the largest independent destination garden centres in the UK, with an excellent reputation for quality and exceptional service standards. Based in an idyllic rural location on the Rutland/Leicestershire border, Gates offers over 10,500sqm of retail and leisure space.

We are currently seeking a department head to manage our Garden Sundries department; working five days a week to include one alternating weekend day. This is an exciting opportunity for an already experienced retail manager with a passion for delivering excellent customer service.

This is an important role within our business as it involves managing one of our largest departments and teams, and includes overall responsibility for customer service.

The role involves:

  • Running the department and managing the team
  • Product research and selection
  • Driving sales and profitability
  • Regular reporting against targets
  • Managing stock rotation and control
  • Maintaining the appearance of visual displays and department housekeeping
  • Delivering an exceptional level of customer service at all times
  • Developing your staff, which includes the Customer Service Team
  • Maintaining harmony and co-operative relationships between staff
  • Communication with other department heads and centre managers

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience of working in a fast-paced retail environment

  • Excellent communication skills
  • An eye for detail

Customer Support Assistant

Full-Time, Part-Time or Weekends

Gates Garden Centre is the leading retail outlet for plants, furniture, gifts and everything gardening in the East Midlands.

We are a busy, dynamic, long established, family run company recognised in giving outstanding customer service and offering superior quality garden products.

We are looking for highly motivated, engaging individuals who have a keen awareness of customer service to join our busy Customer Support Team. The job involves assisting customers with compost and heavy items around the site, as well as collecting trolleys and baskets and generally supporting other departments within the business.  Full training and uniform are provided.
