Farm Shop Manager

Full-Time, Permanent

Gates Garden Centre is opening a brand new, large-scale, state-of-the-art farm shop, alongside an already successful destination garden centre. We are now looking for an experienced manager to run all aspects of the operation. This is a unique opportunity for a highly motivated retail manager to become involved right at the start of this exciting new business venture. You will manage the day to day operation, influencing and sourcing product range and will have a significant impact on the future success of the business. We are an independent, family-run business, established over 70 years ago; continually growing and developing in response to customer demand and market trends. The farm shop will focus on offering the finest locally sourced produce; and complemented by the best from national and international producers.

The role:

Garden Sundries Department Manager

Full-Time, Permanent

Gates Garden Centre is one of the largest independent destination garden centres in the UK, with an excellent reputation for quality and exceptional service standards. Based in an idyllic rural location on the Rutland/Leicestershire border, Gates offers over 10,500sqm of retail and leisure space.

We are currently seeking a department head to manage our Garden Sundries department; working five days a week to include one alternating weekend day. This is an exciting opportunity for an already experienced retail manager with a passion for delivering excellent customer service.

The role involves:

  • Running the department and managing the team
  • Product research and selection
  • Driving sales and profitability
  • Regular reporting against targets
  • Managing stock rotation and control
  • Maintaining the appearance of visual displays and department housekeeping
  • Delivering an exceptional level of customer service at all times
  • Developing your staff, which includes the Customer Service Team
  • Maintaining harmony and co-operative relationships between staff
  • Communication with other department heads and centre managers

Customer Support Assistant

Full-Time, Part-Time or Weekends

Gates Garden Centre is the leading retail outlet for plants, furniture, gifts and everything gardening in the East Midlands.

We are a busy, dynamic, long established, family run company recognised in giving outstanding customer service and offering superior quality garden products.

We are looking for highly motivated, engaging individuals who have a keen awareness of customer service to join our busy Customer Support Team. The job involves assisting customers with compost and heavy items around the site, as well as collecting trolleys and baskets and generally supporting other departments within the business.  Full training and uniform are provided.

Restaurant Supervisor

Full-Time, Permanent

We are currently looking for an experienced Supervisor to assist with the daily management of our thriving 360-cover Garden Restaurant located within Gates Garden Centre.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a Supervisory position in a restaurant or hospitality role. Must have a flexible approach to their working hours as we are a seasonal business (no late night or split shifts required) and must be hands on to lead a large team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsibility for the efficient management of The Garden Restaurant, including kitchen and front of house teams in the manager’s absence.
  • Manage, motivate and help develop a team of over 65 staff to deliver a high standard of food preparation, service and customer care.
  • Deliver an outstanding service to customers at all times.
  • Be responsible for ordering and stock control
  • Implement and maintain the statutory and company standards of hygiene, health and safety and take any action as necessary.
  • Assist to manage staffing including rotas, holidays and absences, ensuring adequate cover at all times.
  • Train new staff.

About You:

  • Extensive hands-on front and back of house experience in a high quality busy restaurant/catering environment.
  • Experience in a high volume operation
  • Staff management and training experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and management skills to co-ordinate the kitchen and front of house teams.
  • Fully conversant with food hygiene regulations, relevant Health and Safety legislation and have appropriate qualifications.
  • A keen eye for cost-control, budgeting, profitability and efficiency.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Previous experience as a chef is not necessary, but you must have a passion for food.

Cook

Full-Time or Part-Time, Permanent

We currently have a vacancy for a full-time or part-time Cook in our Garden Restaurant, working up to 40 hours per week, to include one weekend day. No evening or split shifts.

Applicants should be able to offer a flexible approach to working days and times and be available to work during School/College holiday periods and Bank Holidays.

As a member of our kitchen team, you will be responsible for ensuring all food and associated products are prepared, cooked, served and presented to our high standards. With excellent customer service skills, you should also be professional, well presented and able to communicate clearly with people at all levels. You should be a self-motivated team player able to work unsupervised in a busy and fast paced environment.

Delivery Driver and Warehouse Assistant

We are currently looking for a full-time Delivery Driver and Warehouse Assistant to join the growing Gates team. The role is primarily delivery based, but also includes helping out in the warehouse in response to seasonal demand. You will work five days a week, including one alternating weekend day.

The role involves:

  • Picking items with a high degree of accuracy
  • Loading and unloading of deliveries safely
  • A physical approach to handling items
  • Warehouse inventory
  • Maintaining good housekeeping standards in the warehouse
  • Working as part of successful team
