Deputy Catering Manager

Full-Time, permanent, daytime only – no split shifts

We are currently looking for an established manager to support the Catering Manager in the running of the 360-cover Garden Restaurant and 120-cover Courtyard Coffee Shop.

Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the Catering Manager in the efficient management of The Garden Restaurant and Courtyard Coffee Shop, including kitchen and front of house teams.
  • To help manage, motivate and develop a team of up to 65 staff to deliver a high standard of food preparation, service and customer care.
  • Plan and review menus in consultation with the Catering Manager and Chefs.
  • Ensure all food is prepared to a high standard as per company policy and current legislation.
  • Deliver an outstanding service to customers at all times.
  • Implement and maintain the statutory and company standards of hygiene, health and safety and take any action as necessary.
  • Assist in ordering supplies, managing stock and controlling wastage.
  • Manage staffing including rotas, holidays and absences, ensuring adequate cover at all times.
  • Help with the hiring and training of new staff.

About You:

  • Extensive hands-on front and back of house experience in a high quality busy restaurant/catering environment.
  • A hands-on manager looking for the next step in your career, with exceptionally high standards of service and food presentation, willing to operate at the forefront of service.
  • Experience in a high volume operation.
  • Staff management, recruitment and training experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and management skills to co-ordinate with the kitchen and front of house teams.
  • Fully conversant with food hygiene regulations, relevant Health and Safety legislation and have appropriate qualifications.
  • A keen eye for cost-control, budgeting, profitability and efficiency.
  • Experience of purchasing and stock control.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Good computer skills covering email, Word and Excel.
  • Previous experience as a chef is not necessary, but you must have a passion for food.

Hours:

  • Full Time, 5 days out of 7.
  • As the restaurant is open only during Garden Centre hours, there is no requirement to work evenings or split shifts.
  • Due to the nature of the business, the successful candidate will need to have a flexible approach to working hours, especially weekends and Bank Holidays, as these are our busiest times.

Salary: A rewarding salary package commensurate with experience.

Grotto Roles

Full-Time & Part-Time, Seasonal

4 week days & 1 weekend day OR
2 or 3 week days & 1 weekend day OR
1 or 2 weekend days

Candidates will be self-motivated, able to offer a flexible approach to working times and be available to work additional hours and alternative days if required. You should be well presented and feel comfortable performing in an imaginative and magical role, whilst delivering exceptional customer service.

You will be responsible for welcoming families to our Santa’s Grotto, as well as creating a memorable experience for all. A considerable amount of interaction and improvisation is required throughout. Age over 15 years is preferred.

Other very important role!

Experience in the role is not essential, although a warm heart and gentle demeanour is. Red uniform, white beard and padded belly all provided. We need candidates with all types of availability in order to fill various shifts.

Customer Support Assistant

Full-Time, Part-Time and Alternate Weekends

Gates Garden Centre is the leading retail outlet for plants, furniture, gifts and all things gardening and home furnishing in the East Midlands.

We are a busy, dynamic, long established, family run company recognised in giving outstanding customer service and offering superior quality garden products.

We are looking for highly motivated, engaging individuals who have a keen awareness of customer service to join our Customer Support Team.

The position involves working in and outdoors, mainly doing physical work such as:

  • assisting customers with their purchases and dealing with enquiries about products on sale
  • collecting and re-positioning baskets and trolleys
  • sweeping and tidying around the site
  • assisting customers with heavy items and bags of compost
  • promoting and merchandising products and sale items
  • moving stock and displays

An interest in gardening would be an advantage

Kitchen Porter

Cook

We currently have a vacancy for a full-time cook in our Garden Restaurant, working 40-48 hours per week, to include one weekend day. No evenings or split shifts. Closed Christmas day and Boxing Day.

As a member of our kitchen team, you will be responsible for ensuring all food and associated products are prepared, cooked, served and presented to our high standards. With excellent customer service skills, you should also be professional, well presented and able to communicate clearly with people at all levels. You should be a self-motivated team player able to work unsupervised in a busy and fast paced environment.

Retail Assistants – Farm Shop

Part-Time, Permanent

Gates Garden Centre is opening a brand new, large farm shop alongside an already successful destination garden centre. We are now seeking Retail Assistants to join us in the Farm Shop. Successful applicants will receive a competitive salary, working a part-time pattern of 12-24 hours over 3-5 days (including either Saturday or Sunday).

We aim to offer great value to our customers on a wide range of speciality food goods. We support this with a focus on delivering ‘old fashioned’, genuine and friendly customer service.

Our Retail Assistants are very important as they represent Gates when they serve many hundreds of customers every week. This is an important responsibility and comes with a high degree of trust.

The role:

  • Serving customers quickly, efficiently and in a friendly manner
  • Ensuring customers have the best shopping experience, both in the shop and at the checkout
  • Excellent product knowledge in order to advise and answer customer queries
  • Caring for stock (rotation is key) to ensure customers leave with food in perfect condition
  • Handling deliveries
  • Keeping the shop in great shape and looking its best at all times
  • You will be expected to cover occasional other shifts when colleagues are absent on annual leave.

About you:

  • You will have previous customer service and/or shop/till experience
  • A flexible team player, who is energetic, enthusiastic and dynamic
  • Excellent customer service skills and a friendly personality
  • Professional, responsible and well-presented

Till Assistant

Part-Time (approx 30 hours)

We currently have a vacancy for a part-time Till Assistant. You will be required to work approximately 30 hours per week, including one weekend day.  However, you should be able to offer a flexible approach to working days and times and be available to work during School/College holiday periods and Bank Holidays.

Applicants should possess excellent customer service skills.  The work will primarily be on the tills, requiring you to be self-motivated, literate, numerate and accurate when entering transactions.
