Lilium ‘Oriental Dizzy’ is a perfect example of why Oriental Hybrid Lilies have become so popular. With its large, outward-facing, white flowers adorned with raspberry-red stripes down each petal and red speckles towards the throat, these blooms are not only visually stunning but have a wonderful, strong fragrance. They are a firm favourite as cut flowers for florists, but this exotic beauty also makes an excellent summer border plant, offsetting bright colours and providing contrast to the perennial border.
Growing around 90cm tall, this lily performs best in a position of sun or partial shade and is able to grow in acidic or alkaline soils, provided they are well-drained. These bulbs should be planted in late autumn or spring, in time for their summer bloom from July to August.
Plant the bulbs 12cm deep and 30cm apart with plenty of well-rotted manure or garden compost. When growing lilies in containers, use a loam based compost such as John Innes No.2.
When flowering is over, cut back the leaves and stems as soon as they turn yellow and deadhead regularly.
