Tulipa ‘Sunny Prince’ is a beautiful and charming variety of single early tulip that produces elegant blooms of soft butter yellow with a slightly stronger flush or darker yellow towards the edge of the petals.

These tulips will flower between April and May with a strong stem that can withstand wind and rain, growing to a height of around 35cm/14″.

They are also an excellent attraction for bees and other large pollinators, as recognised by the inclusion of ‘Sunny Prince’ in the RHS Plants for Pollinators collection.

These uplifting spring flowering bulbs will shine when planted in groups in borders and in combination with conifers and flowering shrubs. They are particularly useful when used in a hot themed border as they mix well with shades of red and orange. For the best visual impact plant in groups of at least 10-15. Tulips will also excel as cut flowers in arrangements to be enjoyed around the home.

‘Sunny Prince’ tulip bulbs can be planted in practically any soil, be it acidic, alkaline or neutral, so long as there is effective drainage. Try to find a position of full sun, in a place where tulips have not been grown in recent years, preferably protected from strong winds. Look to plant the bulbs around 10cm/4″ deep and 10cm/4″ apart.

Remove flowers as they fade and support after planting with a top dressing of slow acting fertiliser, such as bone-meal, to assist the flowering.
