The Crocus sieberi ‘Tricolour’ grows to form fattened flower buds that soon open up to show bowls of lilac, white and yellow blooms. A truly eye-catching flower that is easy to grow and will make an impact in gardens, this variety received the Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society and is part of the RHS Plants for Pollinators collection.
These bulbs can be planted directly into the front of borders, under a deciduous tree or in a lawn. However, these multi-coloured flowers are too pretty to not be planted close enough to see up close. Try potting them in a kitchen window box or patio pots so they can be enjoyed to their full potential. If left undisturbed these plants will naturalise and grow into clusters over the coming years.
Plant these bulbs 5cm deep and 5cm apart in soil in the garden. Alternatively, pot the bulbs and take them indoors to be admired.
Crocus sieberi ‘Tricolour’ will grow in a wide range of soils provided there is good drainage. They like sunshine but the flowers will last longer in partial shade. To avoid interference by mice or squirrels, lay chicken wire on top of the bulbs before laying down top soil.
