Lilium ‘Oriental Conca D’Or’ is a beautiful example of the Orienpet Hybrid Lilies. Descended from the Chinese Trumpet Lily and the Oriental Hybrid Lily, ‘Conca D’Or’ can grow up to the substantial height of 120cm and will produce gorgeous yellow blooms, framed in white.

These large, waxy flowers have elongated anther-tipped stamens, slightly recurved petals, and a subtle, fruity fragrance. The petal texture is very stiff and the flowers have been known to hold up for an impressively long time in summer heat and also as a cut flower. When combined with its dark green foliage, these lilies can look idyllic when mixed in a summer border or potted proudly on a patio.

Lilium bulbs such as the ‘Conca D’Or’ tend to appreciate some sort of shade near their roots, while the head should be in a position of sun or partial shade. Look to plant these bulbs as early as possible in late autumn or spring in time for their bloom throughout July to August. Protection from strong winds is advised as the stems and flowers are easily damaged.

Make sure to plant the bulbs 15cm deep and approximately 30-40cm apart in a well-drained soil (acid or alkaline), enriched with well-rotted organic matter or leaf mould.  Try to plant the bulbs in odd numbered clumps and make sure to use ample good-quality, multi purpose compost such as John Innes No.3.

Once planted, try to deadhead the blooms promptly and cut the dead stems back to ground level at the end of autumn to help discourage diseases.
