Lilium ‘Asiatic London Heart’, named after the London 2012 Olympic Games, is a truly striking lily that garners attention with its large, trumpet shaped, upward facing blooms of deep crimson and black creating a great opportunity for contrast against the lighter hues of a summer border.

Although ‘London Heart’ lilies are perfect for flower pots, boxes and arrangements, they also make a wonderful addition to landscape and garden beds and borders. These blooms sit delicately atop 100cm tall strong stems making them an ideal choice for decorative cut flower arrangements. Each remarkable stem will hold approximately 5-7 lightly scented blooms that are drought resistant and ready to enjoy year after year.

The bulbs should ideally be planted in odd numbered groupings, around 12cm deep and 30cm apart with each grouping at least 90cm apart. The bulbs prefer a heavy, well drained soil and require a position of full sun or partial shade. When planting Asiatic lilies in pots, aim for 3 bulbs per 10-14″ ‘patio type’ pot, using a good-quality, multi purpose compost such as John Innes No.3.

Aim to plant these bulbs during spring, once the risk of frost has passed, in time for their bloom throughout June to August.
