An impressive 75 years later, the Gates family continue to run the thriving garden centre from its original site. To celebrate this incredible 75th anniversary, we are marking the occasion with something special that is reminiscent of the roots of the company that Fred and Ivy nurtured all those years ago.Our Gates 1948 Gin is named to honour the origins of the Gates journey, and our passion for flowers is reflected in the flavours we have chosen for our gins: just like Fred and Ivy all those years ago, we continue to grow traditional bedding plants in glasshouses to this day. The inspiration for Gates 1948 GinThe Gates 1948 Gins are inspired by a visit to Fred and Ivy Gates’ walled garden on a summer afternoon in 1948. Here, we are surrounded by fresh country flowers, herbs and vegetables. On a hill, the traditional garden catches a slight breeze from across the countryside and warmth emanates from the old brick walls. The bees hum and delicate aromas fill the air… Even now, you will find these same brick walls still stand on our site and the bees continue to buzz around our aromatic plants on heady summer days. Our small batch, hand-crafted, proper English gin is distilled locally in Oakham, Rutland, It is flavoured with hand-picked Viola flowers grown by Gates and botanicals inspired by Fred and Ivy’s most precious specimen plants, grown all those years ago, which are layered over a classic dry gin. With three enticing flavours to choose from, everyone is sure to find a blend which appeals to them. So whether you are searching for the perfect base for your classic Tom Collins recipe, or you want to explore some exciting gin flavours with your chosen mixer, we have a drink which will fit your needs. The Gates 1948 Gin Collection Gates 1948 Dry Viola & Thyme Gates 1948 Dry is our classic style dry gin which is distilled in traditional copper pot stills. It introduces juniper and citrus followed by subtle spices with a wonderful floral note of viola. The flowers that flavour the Gates 1948 dry gin are hand-picked from the Gates glasshouses. Gates 1948 Raspberry & Lavender Our Gates 1948 Raspberry & Lavender evokes English summers gone by and captures them in a glass. We pick whole raspberries and macerate them until the flavour is just right, before adding them to our classic dry gin. We then distil fresh lavender flowers from the glass house and blend them together creating a beautifully fresh and fruity gin Gates 1948 Apple & Pear The Gates 1948 Apple & Pear is a rich, classic English combination. We infuse our classic dry gin with juicy pears and ripe apples creating a full bodied, bold and fruity flavour. Containing a good hint of juniper and a floral nose, this is a well balanced and moreish gin.Gates 1948 Gin English Floral CocktailsWith three blossoming flavours to explore, the possibilities of drinks you can make with Gates 1948 Gin are endless.
