Learn about Bee Keeping

Learn about Bee Keeping and join us and the Leicestershire & Rutland Beekeepers Association for an introduction to the art on Saturday 22nd June. We have two workshops available, starting at 10:30am and 2pm.

Bee keeping is a subtle mix of practical skills, experience, science, and dark arts; it is enjoyed by men and women, young and old, from all walks of life. Our talk with Mike Petty, Trustee of the LRBKA, will explain how keeping bees can be a fascinating and fulfilling pastime.

The 90-minute presentation is perfect for those who are considering keeping bees, or who are just enchanted by these gorgeous creatures and want to learn more about them. Mike will explain the lifecycle of the bee, how a hive operates and the importance of pollination plus all about the enigmatic Queen Bee.

Weather and bees permitting, also on display will be an observation hive, which is a beehive with large sides made of glass. Visitors can watch the bees at work in complete safety and with no need for protective clothing. Mike will be on hand to point out items of particular interest and answer any questions. Children particularly enjoy trying to find the Queen!

The informal Bee Keeping event will be held in the Gates Garden Restaurant, Thornton Suite. There will be time for a chat with Mike and a Q&A session.

As with all our events, there will be hot drinks and a selection of delicious hand-made Gates cakes.

Ticket are £25 per person, this includes a donation to the LRBKA. Book the Learn about Bee Keeping event now.
