Gates 75^th Anniversary Family Fun Weekend

2023 is an exciting year for us as we celebrate the Gates 75^th Anniversary, and the highlight of the year will be a weekend event for us all to enjoy.

Our 75th anniversary is the perfect occasion to celebrate the history of Gates by bringing together a community of family, visitors and those who share our wonderful rural location for our ‘Gates 75th Anniversary Family Fun Weekend’. This special two-day event will take place on 5^th and 6^th August 2023, 10am to 4pm. Entry and many activities are free, but some activities may require payment.

It is 75 years since Fred and Ivy Gates started a small market garden in the former Victorian walled garden of Cold Overton Hall on the Rutland / Leicestershire border. Growing cut flowers, bedding plants and seasonal produce and selling direct to the public. Gates Garden Centre has, over the last 75 years, expanded and diversified into one of the UK’s largest destination garden centres. Although we’ve never forgotten our gardening heritage, during this time we have worked hard to create somewhere that is no longer just about the garden, but also encompasses home, lifestyle, and leisure, with great places to eat out too.

Our family fun days out will include a traditional fun fair, live 1940s band, falconry displays, vintage cars and tractors, tethered balloon rides (weather permitting), gin and Pimm’s bar, food stalls, barbecue and pizza oven demonstrations, plus lots more great activities for all the family, in and around the Garden Centre, throughout the weekend.

To celebrate this important occasion we are launching a huge Charity Raffle to support Dove Cottage Day Hospice with all of the proceeds raised going to this superb organisation. Dove Cottage is a local hospice providing high quality palliative day care to people living in Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire. It is a voluntary organisation that cares for up to 100 families every week that are affected by life-limiting conditions. Based at Stathern near Melton Mowbray, their care services are provided free of charge. Money raised by the Gates 75th Anniversary Raffle and the on-going fundraising as Gates Charity of the Year, will help towards the running costs of care at Dove Cottage.

The winners of the 75th Anniversary Charity Raffle will be drawn on the 7th August 2023 at Gates Garden Centre and notified by email. Visit our Terms and Conditions for the raffle.
