Salvia ‘Black and Bloom’

Salvia ‘Black and Bloom’ is a tall perennial forming a wide clump of stems that carry ovate leaves and loose spikes of dark blue flowers.

These flowers open in late summer and autumn and are a favourite of butterflies and hummingbirds. It thrives in heat, drought and humidity and requires vary little attention.

Reaching an eventual height and spread of around 120cm, it is perfect towards the back of a perennial border and in butterfly gardens or cottage gardens

It is fully hardy in all European climates and should be planted in a position of full or partial sun. Plant into moist but well drained, neutral, acidic or alkaline soil. Watch for slugs and snails that may attack young growth, while capsid bug and leafhoppers may be troublesome. Remove spent flower spikes to promote further blooms and cut back after flowering is over.

Prune plants to the ground in late winter and divide clumps every few years for added vigor.
