Indigenous to the Crimea, Galanthus plicatus snowdrops were originally bought back to the United Kingdom by British soldiers following the Crimean war when they were amazed to see these spectacular snowdrops covering the battlefield, despite the harsh winter. This exceptionally hardy variety grows slightly larger than most other varieties and will bloom later than other snowdrops, flowering around March.

These flowers are perfect for planting in large drifts on a lawn where they will happily naturalise for years to come. They can also be planted in small groups at the front of a mixed border, or in a pot or container on a patio or table to be enjoyed close up. The bulbs are exceptionally hardy and will survive whatever weather the UK winter will throw at them.

Plant these bulbs around 5-10cm deep into the soil. Be sure to plant them as soon as possible to avoid them drying out. If planting in grasses, it is best to let the leaves die back completely before mowing the lawn. Galanthus like a moisture retentive soil and preferably partial shade but will tolerate full sun.
