Flowering throughout July and August, Eryngium alpinum ‘Blue Distel’ is an eye-catching and captivating perennial that produces silvery-blue, cone-shaped flower umbels and spectacular feathery and spiny basal bracts. These blooms sit on strong grey-blue stems and are a must-have for exciting and distinctive cut flower bouquets or displays.
This flamboyant and exotic aesthetic makes them ideal for filling out the back of a summer border with height and colour, particularly in combination with Gypsophila, Rudbeckia or Solidago.
Plant between March and May in a spot of full sun into poor calcareous sandy soil that is well-drained, especially in winter.
It is best to mix the planting soil with gravel and pieces of limestone. Provide plenty of water in the spring and avoid transplanting wherever possible.
