Dog’s Tooth Violet (2 bulbs)

Dog’s Tooth Violet (Erythronium Dens-Canis) is a perennial that flowers with small star-shaped blooms of swept back violet-pink petals that make it easier to see the rich yellow anthers within. These flowers sit atop delicate stems, with large green and brown-mottled, waxy leaves at the base. Named due to their resemblance in shape to dogs’ teeth, these bulbs are an ideal solution to brighten that difficult shady spot.

They are perfect for planting in the front of colourful flower beds or borders, intermingling with other flowers in a rockery, or in drifts in a wildflower meadow. They can also be grown through thin grass, but be sure that they have died back before mowing any lawn areas. If left undisturbed, these plants will naturalise efficiently to create clusters.

Erythroniums like rich garden soil, with plenty of leaf mould and prefer a shady area. Plant immediately after purchase, without allowing the bulbs to dry out. Plant these bulbs roughly 10cm deep and 10cm apart from each other to allow space for them to flower.
