Canna ‘The President’ (1 bulb)

A classic Canna perennial, ‘The President’ produces huge, fiery scarlet, gladiolus-like flowers that are often bordered with a fine yellow ribbon along the edge of the petals. These stunning blooms sit atop tall stems which rise above the dense and lush foliage of large, lance-shaped, blue-green leaves.

Compact and intense, Canna ‘The President’ is ideal for growing in a container or pot as a fascinating patio focal point.

Look for a warm, sunny and sheltered position with light sandy soil that is enriched with a little well rotted manure or bonemeal.

Keep Canna bulbs moderately dry until roots are formed and young sprouts are showing. Gradually increase watering as the plant develops and water freely during the flowering season. A light application of a complete fertiliser when the shoots first appear and weak liquid manure when the flower spikes appear is beneficial.

When the flowers fade and the stems show signs of decay, water should be gradually withheld to induce a thorough ripening for the next year. The pots should be stored in a dry place until the time for repotting comes.
