Known also as the ‘Peruvian Lily’, Alstroemeria ‘Mona Lisa’ will flower during summer, throughout July and August, producing branched clusters of up to 15 funnel-shaped, crimson flowers with green and white at the petal tips.
This flamboyant and exotic aesthetic makes them ideal for filling out the back of a summer border with extra life and colour or as exceptional long lasting cut flowers.
Alstroemerias are ‘slow in the up-take’, sometimes no stems or leaves will be produces the first season but once established they can be very prolific. Never allow the soil to dry out and cover the plants during winter.
Alstroemerias are also much appreciated for their long lasting flowers. For your enjoyment of beautiful bouquets, plant some extra plants in a cut flower corner of your garden. Use rows 40cm/16″ apart with the plants 20cm/8″ apart in the row.
