The Hymenocallis Ismene festalis ‘Sulphur Queen’ grows about 50cm / 20″ in height and will add plenty of tropical charm to your flower pots.
The Hymenocallis Ismene ‘Sulphur Queen’ is known as the ‘Spider Lily’ and produces showy white umbels with lacy edges, that blend into a sherbet yellow with striped green throats. Slender cured petals frame each flower, bringing even more attention to this showy perennial. You can enjoy these dazzling flowers in the summer months of July & August when they are in full bloom. The unique, exotic blooms smells like Lily of the Valley with lemon overtones – a popular fragrance that makes this flower perfect for indoor displays and outdoor containers.
Plant outdoors in rich soil with well-decayed farmyard manure between March and June for a recurring show year after year, once the danger of frost has passed. If you want to plant, indoors use a rich potting compost, and grow them in a sunny spot or in a warm greenhouse. Once the risk of frost has passed, they can be transplanted outside from May onwards.
The Hymenocallis ‘Sulphur Queen’ loves a sunny and sheltered spot. They are a tender perennial, so they need to be lifted and stored over winter to protect them from the frost and colder climate. Maintain a temperature of no less than 13 – 16 degrees Celsius with little moisture until growth begins.
They can be grown indoors in pots too. If growing indoors plant either in January or February and place in a sunny spot. You can enjoy these stunning flowers indoors between May to June.
