Primarily a border and bedding plant, Dahlia ‘Purpinka’ is a bold and vivid clump-forming perennial that grows bushy dark green pinnate leaves below clusters of deep reddish-purple small flowers. This proud and compact display is ideal for the front or middle of a summer garden bed or border and will also excel when used in patio or terraced pots and containers

To plant the ‘Purpinka’, it is best to wait until all danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed up. Tubers should be planted around 15cm/6″ deep and spaced around 30cm/12″ apart. They prefer a sunny spot in well-drained soil and will thrive with regular watering and feeding. Once plants are established, they will flower profusely throughout the summer and into the fall.

To ensure the best results, deadhead the flowers regularly to encourage more blooms to form. At the end of the growing season, any tubers should be lifted, dried, and stored in a cool, dry place to be replanted the following spring.

For early flowering, tubers may be started off in boxes from March onwards. Use a light soil that is mixed with peat, keeping it slightly moist. Keep boxes cool and free of frost and plant sprouted tubers when the danger of frost has passed.

In summary, ‘Purpinka’ is a beautiful, easy-to-grow variety that will add a touch of vivid magic to any garden. With its vibrant blooms and tall stems, it’s the perfect choice for beds, borders, and as a cut flower. With proper care, this dahlia will bring joy to your garden for many summers to come.
