Crataegus laevigata ‘Paul’s Scarlet’, also know as a Hawthorn Tree, offers an abundance of year-round seasonal interest for your garden. Native to Britain, this tree grows trusses of rich pink and red, fully double flowers that open in May. These blooms are set against a backdrop of attractive glossy green and lobed foliage.
In autumn, its mass of red fruit makes an excellent food source for birds and wildlife. In addition to this, as a native species, it is fully hardy and suited to the climate and conditions found in Britain. In recognition of this reliability and consistency in the garden, it has been awarded the coveted Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit.
These trees look fantastic on their own, or can be planted alongside Japanese Maple, or Acer palmatum, which both make good planting companions.
Simply plant your Crataegus in a bright and sunny position in the garden, in well-drained and fertile soil, to enjoy this delightful tree for years to come.
