This Round Slate Sundial is a decorative and functional addition that is sure to catch your eye in the garden, made from natural, weather-proof slate.
To use, simply place the sundial on a flat surface, in direct sunlight. Point the pointer (Gnomon) of the sundial to the north (northern hemisphere). At twelve o’clock the shadow of the pointer should point to 12 on the face of the sundial. The sundial indicates the sun time, which is the real local time. Per degree of longitude the time varies about 4 minutes.
Because of the elliptical orbit of the earth around the sun, the sundial does not point the time precisely the whole year round (variation from -6 to +14 minutes). Therefore, you can adjust the direction of the sundial a little every month so that the variation is reduced.
