Native to South Africa, Nerine bowdenii flowers will provide some autumn colour for your garden borders.

Nerine bowdenii, also known as the Guernsey Lily are summer-dormant, perennial bulbs that flower in autumn around September. They provide a breath of fresh air with a touch of colour when all the other blooms are fading and past their best. They bear striking sprays of lily-like flowers in magenta pink with recurved petals and faint stripes, standing on stiff upright stems and accompanied by rich green foliage which develops in spring. Due to the slender tall stems, they make stunning cut flowers at a time when blooms are scarce.

Plant in well-drained soil in a sunny position within borders, rockeries or in pots as they do not flower well in shaded areas. If you are planting in pots or containers ensure you use a well-drained compost. Always plant with the neck of the bulb exposed between March, April and May.
