The ‘Doyenne Du Comice’ Pear Tree produces one of the most popular pears currently grown. A queen of pears according to some, its succulent texture and wonderful sweet taste is superb.
This pear is known for withstanding tough conditions, if you have a troublesome area in your garden. With large, golden-yellow fruits, it may have an irregular yield at times, but its good storage and lovely ripe fragrance make up for it.
Doyenne Du Comice is available in a 12 litre pot, on a rootstock that makes it suitable for growing in your garden. The rootstock controls the rate of growth and ensures the tree fruits earlier than when grown on its own roots. Most modern cultivated pears are grown on Quince A rootstock.
Quince A is a semi-vigorous variety that grows well in most soils and sites. This rootstock allows the tree to grow to a mature height of up to 3.5m (11ft) over 10 years.
