A low-maintenance and robust evergreen shrub, Skimmia japonica ‘Dad’s Red Dragon’ is an excellent choice for adding year-round interest to shady areas of the garden. With aromatic leathery green leaves and clusters of vibrant red berries in autumn, there is plenty to admire.
As this is a female variety of skimmia, it requires a male variety to be near enough – as a rule, within at least visible proximity - for it to be successfully pollinated to produce its autumnal display of berries. A wonderful sight alongside the autumnal golden hues of the garden, the bright red berries dazzle above its lustrous green foliage.
A wonderful addition to a range of outside spaces, its neat and compact growth makes it a low maintenance addition to any garden. Plant it in a container to add colour to patio and balcony areas or grow it in your beds and borders for year-round interest to enjoy.
In addition to its range of ornamental features, this Skimmia is a great way to attract bees and other pollinators into your garden. This has been recognised by the Royal Horticultural Society who have added it to their Plants for Pollinators Collection.
