The Prunus ‘Matsumae-fuki’, also known as the Chocolate Ice Tree, is an incredible variety with clusters of large white blooms that have a flush of pink and contrast beautifully against the chocolate coloured foliage.
This profuse flowering tree has blooms that almost entirely cover the branches throughout April and May. The foliage then enhances this magnificent sight with its beautiful oval shape and rich brown tones of the young foliage. As the flowers fade the foliage deepens to a dark green, before putting on its final autumnal show with stunning bronze and crimson hues.
In addition to its magnificent ornamental features that change with the seasons, this tree has a light and airy crown that makes it a good choice for underplanting to further enhance its beauty. This tree is reliable and easy to grow and has received the prestigious Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit in recognition of its robust and healthy growth.
