The Prunus cerasifera ‘Nigra’, or Black Cherry Plum Tree, grows a mass of single soft pink blooms that look magnificent against the near-black stems and deep purple leaves.
A great choice for smaller gardens and for under planting, it has light and airy growth that enables the dark coloured branches and leaves to act as a contrasting backdrop to bright summer blooms. As a final flourish before dropping its leaves in winter, the deep purple hues of the leaves transform into magnificent shades of claret and burnt orange.
In addition to its striking appearance, this tree is fully hardy and a reliable performer in the garden. It has received the prestigious Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit in recognition of its consistent and healthy growth. It is also a wonderful choice for attracting bees and pollinators to your garden.
