The Prunus domestica ‘Old Greengage’ Gage Tree produces a reliable crop of wonderfully delicious fruit, with a sweet and succulent taste. Perfect for eating straight from the tree, this fruit is considered by many to be the best tasting Greengage and deserves a position in any orchard.
In addition to its magnificent fruit, this tree has delightful white blooms that adorn the tree in clusters from April. They are a great way to attract bees and other pollinators into your garden, and this has been recognised by the Royal Horticultural Society who have added it to their Plants for Pollinators Collection.
To get the most from the ‘Old Greengage’ Gage Tree, plant it in a bright and sunny position, in moist but well drained soil. Try to find a sheltered position, to protect it from cold drying winds, and keep your tree looking its best for longer.
This ‘Old Greengage’ Gage Tree is available on Myrobalan rootstock which is a semi-vigorous, to vigorous rootstock. It grows well in most soils, even more exposed sites, and grows to an ultimate height of approximately 4.5 metres in 10 years. The rootstock of a tree, controls the rate of growth and ensures the tree fruits earlier than when grown on its own roots.
