With its fragrant rose trumpet-shaped flowers the Lilium 'Oriental Double Sweet Rosy' is a great choice to create focal interest around shrubbery or border plantings. This delightful lily will be at home amongst a summer border, container or pot and excels as a cut flower with its exquisite rose petals edged in white with red spots and stripes. The 'Sweet Rosy' lily is a herbaceous perennial with a rigidly upright and towering form that looks great amongst a couple of finer or coarser plants for an effective composition.
These 'Sweet Rosy' lilies will grow up to 90cm tall with a spread of up to 30cm and should be underplanted with lower-growing perennials. Due to this height and typically weaker stalks these lilies may need to be staked in order to avoid drooping. They grow at a fast rate and if cared for can be expected to last up to 10 years. They prefer a heavy, well drained soil with a good covering of peat in order to retain moisture in the soil. These bulbs should be planted between March and June.
Aim to plant the bulbs in a position protected from strong winds where they will receive sun or partial shade but try to avoid hot conditions such as along a south facing wall. The bulbs should be planted approximately 15cm deep and 30cm apart. Oriental lilies will usually flower around July to August.
