Lilium 'Asiatic Monte Negro' (2 Bulbs)

The spectacular Lilium 'Asiatic Monte Negro' features vivid red, bowl-shaped flowers, with recurving tips, which are upward facing and feature tiny dark spots at their heart. Known and appreciated for their ornamental value each stem can produce up to 10 large flowers, each up to 20cm across.

Flowering in early to mid summer, the 'Monte Negro' constitutes a perfect border plant, providing striking contrast to the perennial border and is able to mix beautifully with other annuals and summer-flowering bulbs. These bulbs are also ideal for containers and can be used as excellent fresh cut flowers.

Ideally lilies should be planted in autumn when the bulbs are still plump however they can still be planted in spring in time for some stunning summer displays. When planting, look for a position of sun or partial shade and ideally in clumps of at least 3 bulbs. The bulbs should be planted approximately 12cm deep and 30cm apart in a well-drained soil, enriched with well-rotted organic matter or leaf mould. For maintenance, deadhead when required and try to cut back the stems and foliage at the end of autumn.
