The 'Halycon' Hosta is one of the most loved blue-green Hostas with medium, thick-textured, vivid blue-green leaves. These leaves are lance-shaped when young, turning heart-shaped when mature. In the summer, this impressive foliage is complemented by bell-shaped greyish-lavender flowers on 40cm tall stems.
Grown in-house at Gates Garden Centre, the 'Halcyon' Hosta is perfect among other perennials in beds and borders. It is ideal as groundcover or to underplant shrubs and roses and can be used in both city and informal cottage gardens. When mature it will reach a height of 40cm and a spread of 70cm.
Plant from its 3 litre pot into a position of partial shade in fertile, moist and well drained soil. Watch for slugs and snails which could damage the attractive foliage, remove spent foliage as required and clear up dead foliage when it dies back at the end of the growing season. Propagate by division in late summer or early spring.
