Hebe 'Red Edge' is a small evergreen shrub that produces oblong, blue-grey leaves which are edged with red, and clouds of wonderful lilac-blue flowers. In the summer it will attract a wide range of pollinators such as bees with its short spikes of lilac-blue summer flowers.
Growing to a height of around 45cm and a spread of approximately 60cm, this Hebe is perfect for creating an attractive low, informal hedge. It can also be used as an edging plant in a mixed border at urban or coastal sites however it may help to provide protection from cold drying winds.
It suits a range of soils but will grow best in poor to moderately fertile, neutral to alkaline, well-drained soil. Plant in a position of full sun or partial shade. Keep an eye out for aphids, tortrix moth, leaf spot and downy mildew. Remove spent flowers after flowering to encourage a further flush of flowers.
