Recipient of the Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit, Hebe 'Caledonia' is a tried and tested variety of evergreen Hebe shrub that it sure to produce reliable results. With a rounded, compact shape, it is covered in wonderful glossy, red-edged, dark green leaves. These leaves are held upright on burgundy-purple stems that are topped with clusters of violet flowers, from late spring through to early autumn, attracting bees and other pollinators to the garden.
Reaching full maturity and height (60cm) in approximately 10 years, this Hebe is perfect for gravel or rock gardens and excels when planted in among a summer flower bed or border, providing excellent colour and structure all year round. It can even be used as a patio or container plant and will fit both city and informal cottage gardens.
When planting, look for a position of full sun or partial shade with shelter from cold drying winds. It can handle most soils but will prefer being planted into alkaline or neutral soil that is moist but well drained. It is rarely affected by pests or disease, requiring little maintenance, however it can be susceptible to aphids, leaf spot or downy mildew.
