The ideal contrast to brighter spring flowers, Black Persian Lily (Fritillaria Persica) has dark purple, almost black blooms that grow on tall, elegant silvery-green stems. The bell-shaped flowers grow along most of the top third of the stem, forming a tall, thin cone shape.
Available as a single bulb, it is perfect for planting at the centre of a colourful border, particularly alongside plants with silvery-green foliage. It will also flourish in a gravel garden or create a captivating container display to admire on patio areas, next to entrances or on terraces.
Easy and reliable to grow, plant the ‘Persica’ bulb roughly 12cm deep in fertile but free draining soil, adding grit when required. Ideally find a position that is sheltered and in full sun to ensure the flowers look at their best for longer, and it will then return year after year with its incredible near-black flowers.
