A pack of 2 Dahlia 'Tartan' tubers will produce flowers that are an excellent addition to any gardener's collection. Known for its stunning red and white tartan-like petals and its long-lasting blooms, it can reach up to 1 meter in height, making it a great focal point for any garden display.
Plant Dahlia Tartan tubers in pots and containers to elevate the appeal of your patio or balcony area. Or add them to your beds and borders for dramatic and striking displays that repeat flower through to the first frost. They also make excellent cut flowers, so you can admire these exquisite blooms around the home as well.
To get the best floral display, plant your dahlia in a sunny location in moist but well drained soil. After planting, water in well and monitor during the summer months. Aim for one good soak once a week to the base of the plant. Deadhead regularly to encourage more flowers through to the first frost.
Over winter, either lift tubers once they have finished flowering and store in dry compost or if you live in warmer coastal areas, cover them over with a mulch.
For early flowering, tubers may be started off in boxes in April; use a light soil mixed with compost. Keep slightly moist, cool and free from frost. When danger of frost has passed, plant out the sprouted tubers. For the best results deadhead regularly to encourage fresh blooms. If used as a cut flower, only cut when completely developed.
