Flowering from July through to the first frost, Dahlia 'Gold Crown' grows large and distinctive, spiky orange flowers that add a sunny feel to garden display. Long lasting and low maintenance, these bright flowers sit on tall sturdy stems, contrasting with its deep green foliage.
Growing to a height of around 120cm, they are ideal for adding vertical interest into the back of a garden border or for creating an eye-catching display in the middle of a bed. They also make an excellent cut flower to enjoy in floral displays around the home.
When planting in the garden look for a position of full sun into soil that is moist but well-drained with a good supply of humus. Plant 15cm/6" deep and 60cm/24" apart. Digging the soil over before planting is recommended. The soil should always be moist, yet never flooded.
For early flowering, tubers may be started off in boxes from March onwards, using a light soil mixed with peat and kept slightly moist. Keep boxes cool and free of frost and plant sprouted tubers when the danger of frost has passed. Keep plants well watered during growth and remove faded flowers.
