Camellia japonica 'Ruby Wedding' is a distinctive evergreen shrub with bushy, lush, dark-green foliage and vivid early season colour.
This Camellia will produce masses of intense-red, rose-shaped flowers that appear from as early as January and as late as April, contrasting perfectly against the glossy leaves and making them perfect for celebrating a special occasion, such as a Ruby Wedding, an anniversary or a special birthday.
Despite its vigorous flowering, this variety will remain relatively compact, growing to a mature height of around 2.5 metres and 2 metres wide, making it versatile enough for practically any size garden. It can even be grown in containers or as an evergreen flowering hedge. Camellias are popular for their winter and spring flowering, providing a vivid splash of colour when little else is in bloom.
They can be planted any time of the year, provided that the ground is not too frosty. Camellias are lime-hating plants, meaning that they do not grow well in alkaline-based soils. So if your garden soil is more alkaline, then we would highly recommend planting this Camellia into a large pot or container with ericaceous compost.
We recommend watering the camellia well before removing from the pot and when planting on, use ericaceous compost and a fertiliser or feed suitable for ericaceous plants, such as Azalea, Camellia & Rhododendron Continuous Release Plant Food or Liquid Ericaceous Feed.
