Camellias such as 'Nuccio's Pearl' are early flowering, versatile shrubs that produce beautiful blooms and excellent evergreen foliage.

A winner of the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit, Camellia japonica 'Nuccio's Pearl' grows spectacular, double, pale pink and white flowers, 10cm / 4" across, that contrast beautifully against its lush, dark-green foliage.

These stunning flowers appear early, from late winter to mid spring, signifying the start of a new year and filling your garden with colour when little else is in bloom.

A compact grower, they tend to reach a mature height of around 2 - 3m making it versatile enough to use in practically any garden. They are perfect for fitting into a mixed shrub border and are great in woodland gardens or as a screen or hedge. Camellias perform particularly well in containers on a patio or sheltered terrace.

They can be planted any time of the year, so long as the ground is not too frosty. Look for a position of partial or dappled shade, preferably with a dose of early morning sun but with protection from the most intense mid-day heat.

Camellias are lime-hating plants, meaning that they do not grow well in alkaline-based soils, so if your garden soil is more alkaline, then make sure to use a healthy amount of ericaceous compost when planting into a large pot or container.

Water the camellia well before removing it from the pot and when planting on, use ericaceous compost and a fertiliser or feed that is suitable for ericaceous plants, such as Azalea, Camellia & Rhododendron Continuous Release Plant Food or Liquid Ericaceous Feed.
