Charming pincushion-like, pink flowers create an enchanting haze of summer colour with Astrantia ‘Roma’. Also known as Masterwort or Hattie’s pincushion, it has an extremely long flowering season, with its beautiful blooms lasting through to September adding lasting texture and colour to admire.
The flowers grow on tall slender stems above a mound of attractive foliage that adds appeal even before the flowers appear. An excellent addition to flowerbeds and borders, adding punctuated height to the display, it will also flourish in containers for a low maintenance and elegant feature that softens areas of hard landscaping.
In addition to its excellent ornamental appeal, this perennial is known for its robust and reliable growth, with outstanding resistance to pests and disease, which has been recognised by the Royal Horticultural Society who have given it the prestigious Award of Garden Merit.
To ensure you get the best display from your Astrantia Roma, plant it in a sunny or partially shaded position in humus-rich soil. Regularly deadhead throughout the season to keep it looking tidy and to encourage a second flush of flowers.
