Gates is one of the largest independent destination garden centres in the UK, established in 1948 and continually growing and developing in response to customer demand and market trends. We have a team of around 300 people working at our flagship Garden Centre in Cold Overton near Oakham and our recently opened Woodlands Hinckley Garden Centre in Stapleton, near Hinckley. Our team carry out a wide range of roles across Garden Centre Retail, Operations, eCommerce, Marketing and Administration. Our team is expanding fast and it is an exciting time to join us.

Retail Sales Assistant

Gates Oakham| Full-Time| Permanent

We are currently looking for a full-time Retail Assistant to join the dedicated team at Gates Oakham. This role is ideal for someone with a positive, can-do attitude who enjoys working as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Flexibility and willingness to take on different responsibilities throughout the year are essential.

The role includes:

  • Helping customers with questions, queries and selling
  • Maintaining great shopfloor standards to give our customers the best shopping experience
  • Putting stock out and ensuring it is well presented

You will have:

  • Comfortable working as part of a team, whilst showing an outgoing and energetic personality
  • Having a ‘can do’ mindset
  • Proactive and adaptable with working in different areas of the departments
  • A confident communicator, who can interact with customers and pass on product knowledge where appropriate
  • Likes to work in a fast-paced environment that is always evolving

Delivery Driver

Gates Oakham| Full-Time| Permanent

We are looking for a Delivery Driver to join our friendly and motivated team at Gates Garden Centre Oakham. During the busy spring and summer months, you will primarily focus on completing deliveries, ensuring excellent service and efficiency. As we move into the quieter delivery season, you will play a key role within the Garden Centre, supporting the wider team across a variety of tasks. This may include working on tills, assisting in our seasonal department, and helping wherever needed.

This role is ideal for someone with a positive, can-do attitude who enjoys working as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Flexibility and willingness to take on different responsibilities throughout the year are essential.

This is a full-time position, working 4 weekdays and a weekend day each week.

The role includes:

  • Always delivering parcels and goods to customers with the highest levels of customer service
  • Ensuring products arrive at their destination on time and in good condition
  • Packing, loading and unloading delivery vans and trucks
  • Maintaining regular and clear communication with route dispatchers
  • Review deliveries with recipients to ensure they are accurate
  • Obtaining delivery confirmations from customers
  • Cleaning and preparing van for the next delivery
  • Being adaptable to working within the Garden Centre in different roles, in the quieter months

You will have:

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Friendly and professional demeanor
  • Enjoy working as part of a team and working with other drivers and colleagues
  • Adaptable to changes in the role during different months
  • Full UK driving license with a maximum of 6 points
  • Practical approach and enjoy physical work, as some parcels can be large and heavy.
