Gates is one of the largest independent destination garden centres in the UK, established in 1948 and continually growing and developing in response to customer demand and market trends. We have a team of around 300 people working at our flagship Garden Centre in Cold Overton near Oakham and our recently opened Woodlands Hinckley Garden Centre in Stapleton, near Hinckley. Our team carry out a wide range of roles across Garden Centre Retail, Operations, eCommerce, Marketing and Administration. Our team is expanding fast and it is an exciting time to join us.

Retail Horticultural Assistant 

Gates Woodlands Hinckley| Full Time| Permanent  

We are looking for a full-time Retail Horticultural Assistant, working in our large Horticulture department at Gates Woodlands Hinckley.

Applicants to this role will have good plant knowledge, this position will include the unique role and opportunity of providing our Plant Concierge service to our customers.

Responsibilities include:

  • Processing large volumes of stock quickly and efficiently
  • Assisting customers with product queries and purchases
  • Providing our Plant Concierge service
  • Maintaining the appearance of the horticultural visual displays and department housekeeping
  • Maintaining plant quality within the department, ensuring customers have the best plants to buy in our store
  • Always delivering an exceptional level of customer service

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a friendly personality with an ability to easily engage with and connect with our customers
  • Be able to recognise and act upon sales opportunities
  • Enjoy assisting customers with finding solutions to garden care problems
  • Be highly driven, with the ability to see tasks through to completion
  • Have an eye for detail
  • Be hungry and keen to learn and self-motivated and a can-do attitude
  • Enjoy working outdoors in any weather

This is a physical role so applicants should possess a good level of fitness. Applicants must also be professional and well-presented and have excellent customer service skills.

This role is full-time, permanent, working weekdays and alternate weekends, plus bank holidays.
