Dahlia Cactus ‘Red Pigmy’ (1 tuber)

Dahlia Cactus ‘Red Pigmy’ is a striking and distinct tuberous-rooted perennial that produces blooms of fully double red petals that are tightly packed together, giving it a spiky, cactus-like appearance. Flowering from mid-summer through to the first frosts, these eye-catching 10cm/4″ blooms stand out against its dense bushy green foliage with the tallest stems reaching about 50cm/20″ tall.

‘Red Pigmy’ is an ideal border and bedding plant that can also be grown on terraces and balconies. Tubers should be planted around 15cm/6″ deep and 60cm/24″ apart, in a position of full sun, allowing space for the plant to spread. Deadheading the flowers will also encourage the plant to produce more flowers throughout the growing season.

For early flowering, tubers may be started off in boxes from March onwards. Use a light soil mixed with peat, keeping it slightly moist. Keep boxes cool and free of frost and plant sprouted tubers when danger of frost has passed. Keep plants well watered during growth and remove faded flowers.
