Tulipa ‘Black Parrot’ is a bulbous perennial producing broad grey foliage and large deep purple-black flowers with frilly margins.
These gorgeous flowers will appear throughout April and May, reaching an approximate mature height of around 50cm/20″.
These flowers are perfect at the front of flowering borders, or even as cut flowers for floral arrangements in the home. They are also excellent for underplanting roses or growing through Muscari. If planting outside, be sure that the slender stems are sheltered from strong wind and rain to maintain the integrity of the flower.
A recipient of the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit, ‘Black Parrot’ tulips will grow in a wide range of different soils, provided there is good drainage. They are fully hardy and feature substantial resistance to pests and disease.
Plant the bulbs 10cm deep and 10cm apart. Remove flower heads as they begin to fade and avoid repeatedly planting tulips in exactly the same spot that they have been grown in recent years.
