No other hollyhock looks like Halo, with its extra-large, two-tone single blooms and contrasting ‘eyes’ on tall stately flower spires. A fabulous feature in a sunny border or patio, these lovely flowers are a must-have for anyone who is a fan of spectacular colour and height in their garden.
How to sow
Sow on the surface of a good seed compost, and cover with a light sprinkling of compost of vermiculite. Place in a propagator or seal the seed tray inside a polythene bag until after germination.
How to grow
When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant into 7.5cm (3in) pots and grow on in cooler conditions. When plants are well grown, gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions for 10-15 days before planting outdoors. Grow in full sun in any fertile, well drained soil. Choose a position that is sheltered from strong winds. Space plants at least 60cm (24in) apart to improve air circulation and help prevent hollyhock rust.
