Bright and colourful cottage garden favourite. These easy to grow perennial columbines are perfect for borders in sun and shade, and make great cut flowers too.
How to sow
Sow seed on the surface of good free draining, damp seed compost., and cover with a fine sprinkling of vermiculite. Place in a propagator or seal container inside a polythene bag and keep at 15-20°C (59-68F). Germination can take 1-3 months. Do not exclude light, as this helps germination.
How to grow
Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into trays or 7.5cm (3in) pots. Grow on in cooler conditions for 10-15 days before planting out after all risk of frost, 30cm (12in) apart. Overwinter autumn sowings in a coldframe and plant out the following spring.
