Salix integra ‘Hakuro-nishiki’ is commonly known as a Flamingo Willow or Shrimp Willow.
In the UK, this very popular small garden tree is hardy, deciduous and renowned for it’s spectacular, variegated foliage. Throughout the year, new shoots emerge bright pink and turn creamy white as they mature. In autumn, these narrow, lance shaped leaves turn a fiery orange-red before falling.
Flamingo Willows are perfect for any size of garden. Position them either side of a door in pots for a front garden feature or plant them in a garden bed or border to add structure to your garden.
They prefer full sun and well drained, fertile soil. Maintain their shape by cutting back hard in early spring to provide the main, spherical shape. Carry out light pruning of any stray or overgrown areas throughout the summer.
Grown as a standard, these trees are grafted on top of a long, straight main stem to form a bushy head. They are available in a variety of sizes.
