Peony ‘Susie Q’

The lactiflora Peony ‘Susie Q’ is a compact herbaceous perennial that produces bold, bright pink, double, rose-shaped blooms above lush bottle green foliage.

These fragrant flowers produce their extravagant display in early June every year and may need support or staking. The plants are durable and long lived and produce deep green bushy foliage.

Grown in-house at Gates Garden Centre, ‘Susie Q’ Paeonies are best planted as a specimen or feature plant in borders and beds, growing up 60cm tall and 50cm wide. They can be used in city or informal cottage gardens and also make for excellent cut flowers with a vase life of over a week.

Plant in a position of sun or partial shade, away from trees or shrubs as peonies don’t like to compete for food and moisture. Plant in humus rich soil and water in well. Peonies may not produce flowers within the first season but will reach the top of their form in their second or third year.

These peonies look beautiful when combined with roses, bearded irises or other peonies such as the ‘Honey Gold’ or ‘Princess Margaret’.
