‘Pentland Javelin’ Seed Potatoes grow beautiful new potatoes that will be ready from late autumn and Christmas. These lovely soft waxy-textured new potatoes have white skins and flesh that is ideal for boiling as a salad or new potato.

The skin is light brown with very few eyes while the plant grows to a medium height so can be grown in most conditions. It also suffers very little slug damage and is resistant to common scab, powdery scab, spraing, mild mosaic virus, slugs and bruising.

Planting Guide

Plant First Early potato tubers, such as ‘Pentland Javelin’, into trenches dug into a well-prepared bed about 20-23cm/8-9″ apart, or plant them into a potato grow-bag, making sure there is at least 10cm/4″ of compost beneath them. Add a multi-purpose fertiliser to the bottom of the trench or growbag and then cover the potatoes with a 10cm/4″ layer of soil or compost.

Water well and as the plants get to around 20cm/8″ tall, bank up the soil around the plant, so the soil covers the bottom two thirds of the plant.

Harvesting Guide

Potatoes should be ready in approximately 12 weeks, or after flowering. Harvest potatoes only as required, leaving the remainder in situ for up to a month.

For a Christmas harvest it is important that the crop is protected from frosts, either through being moved or through insulation.
