Nectaroscordum siculum (Sicilian Honey Garlic) is a robust and beautiful variety from the Allium family that grows large, showy clusters of drooping bell-shaped flowers. These flowers feature a gradient of green, cream and pink petals, rising on a tall leafless stem.
Flowering in late spring and early summer, these Alliums have a strong garlic scent, hence the name Sicilian Honey Garlic. These qualities help to attract bees and other pollinators as recognised by its inclusion in the RHS Plants for Pollinators collection.
They will look stunning planted in beds, borders, as part of Mediterranean-style gardens or city and cottage gardens. For the best results, plant in groups of at least five among other alliums and taller perennials. The flowers can also be used for dried arrangements.
Plant these bulbs around 5cm deep and 5cm apart into the soil. Alliums will grow in a wide range of soils provided there is good drainage. They like sunshine but the flowers will last longer in partial shade.
