Mahonia × media ‘Winter Sun’, also known as Oregon Grape ‘Winter Sun’, is a wonderful plant for adding vibrant winter colour to a wide range of places around the garden. With clusters of densely packed rich golden yellow flowers above dark green, leathery and glossy holly-like foliage, it is a welcome sight during the dullness of winter. The charming and long-lasting floral display is then followed by bunches of ornamental deep purple berries that further add to the colourful display.
In addition to its fabulous winter flowers and foliage, this plant is also loved for its robust nature and reliable growth. This has been recognised by the Royal Horticultural Society who have given it their prestigious Award of Garden Merit. So, you have peace of mind that it will create a magnificent display for many years to come.
With a host of features to enjoy through the seasons, this Mahonia creates a wonderful focal point to enjoy with its architectural foliage and striking spikes of yellow flowers. It also looks beautiful in informal gardens and wildlife spaces, where it can happily flourish, while also attracting an array of beneficial insects and pollinators into your garden.

How to care for your plant
Low maintenance and easy to grow, simply plant your Mahonia × media ‘Winter Sun’ in a shady position or partially shady spot, ensuring the soil is kept moist. If your plant starts to get leggy you can cut it back by a third in spring and this will encourage new shoots around the base.
