A taster pack of 10 Shallot ‘Longor’ produces a Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit winning shallot variety that is highly praised for its robust flavour and good storage potential.
Each planted shallot will yield around 6-8 bulbs at harvest, that are very easy to peel and slice. This elongated banana-type variety features copper coloured skins and pink flesh with a great tasting sweet shallot flavour.
To get the best from your Longor Shallots, plant in spring at a depth of 33cm/1″ leaving approximately 12cm/5″ between bulbs and 30cm/12″ between rows, in a position of full sun. Lift the crop a few days after its leaves die down around late spring and early autumn. Leave on the surface to ripen and, when dry, rub off the loose skin and roots. Store in a cool, dry, frost-free place in trays.
